Computer networks, like any other mechanical device require regular
maintenance to ensure they continue to operate at their optimum.
Generally, this task takes no longer than 2 hours per server, per month
to perform and is a valuable tool in ensuring that potential issues are
identified and addressed prior to becoming work prohibitive.
Whilst
every network is different and will develop and implement a monthly
maintenance procedure specific to your requirements, as a starting
point a monthly maintenance will consist of the following standard
tasks:
 |
Backup logs checked and cleared |
 |
Trial restore performed to verify backup integrity |
 |
System event or error logs checked and cleared |
 |
Events arising from system event or error logs investigated |
 |
Temporary files cleared |
 |
Disk space & Disk compression ratios checked |
 |
System resources checked and recorded, including CPU usage, Memory Usage, paging, Network usage, etc |
 |
Server disks scanned for viruses including macro viruses |
 |
Update virus definitions on Workstations |
 |
Issues surrounding either server or client performance addressed |
 |
All of the above events documented and included in a monthly report (optional) |
The
Monthly maintenance is procedural and all tasks performed and results
are logged in your account on our web based helpdesk, this ensures that
we do not indivertible miss a particular task, but more importantly it
creates a historical record of the performance of the entire system.
A PRO IT consultant will be happy to provide further details and show you through the
Monthly Maintenance procedure.
